Seoul airport runways were briefly closed by North Korean rubbish balloons

South Korea’s Incheon International Airport experienced a three-hour disruption to takeoffs and landings due to North Korea-launched balloons filled with refuse.

One balloon landed near passenger Terminal 2, and the three runways were temporarily shut down. North Korea has flown balloons carrying trash into South Korea since late May, with hundreds landing in the country. The airport has experienced similar disruptions in the past, with the disruption occurring between 1:46 a.m. and 4:44 a.m., and the runways have since re-opened.
